Overview

Gorilla Wizard is a modern Psilocybe cubensis hybrid created from:

Gandalf x Makilla Gorilla

That combination gives Gorilla Wizard an unusually concentrated family tree involving Melmac and albino-associated genetics.

Community genetic records consistently preserve the Gandalf x Makilla Gorilla parentage, and surviving genetic databases place Gorilla Wizard directly beneath both parents.

Lady Hyphae's Gorilla Wizard is exceptionally pale.

Caps are white.

Stems are white.

The stems are dense and solid.

And rather than becoming exceptionally tall or exaggerated, the fruiting bodies tend to maintain a compact, balanced proportion.

It is almost the perfect middle ground between squat and elongated.

The Gorilla Wizard Family Tree

Looking one generation deeper makes this genetic much more interesting.

Gandalf is documented as a True Albino Teacher x Melmac cross. Community records attribute the original cross to Jik Fibs, with later isolation work associated with MycoMama Angela and Fahthyr O Blivion.

Makilla Gorilla is documented as a DC Mak x Albino Penis Envy cross.

That gives us:

True Albino Teacher x Melmac ↓ Gandalf

DC Mak x Albino Penis Envy ↓ Makilla Gorilla

Gandalf x Makilla Gorilla ↓ Gorilla Wizard

So underneath a relatively simple name is a genetic carrying TAT, APE, and multiple branches of Melmac-related ancestry.

The Repeated Melmac Connection

One of the most interesting things about Gorilla Wizard is how strongly Melmac genetics are represented in its family tree.

Gandalf contains Melmac directly.

Makilla Gorilla contains DC Mak, itself belonging to the broader Melmac family.

That means Melmac-related genetics enter Gorilla Wizard through both sides of the cross.

This matters because dense, substantial morphology is frequently associated with Melmac and Penis Envy-derived cubensis families.

Gorilla Wizard's thick, solid stems fit remarkably well within that broader family pattern.

Appearance and Morphology

Lady Hyphae's Gorilla Wizard produces extremely pale fruiting bodies.

The stems are white, dense, and substantial.

Caps are also predominantly white rather than developing the conventional golden or caramel pigmentation associated with classic P. cubensis.

But one of its best characteristics is actually proportion.

Gorilla Wizard isn't exceptionally tall.

It isn't an exaggerated squat either.

The fruits tend to maintain a compact middle height with enough stem mass to appear substantial without becoming oversized.

That gives mature Gorilla Wizard a remarkably balanced silhouette.

Community photographs of Gorilla Wizard also repeatedly show thick, substantial fruiting bodies, although considerable phenotype variation exists within circulating material.

Why Is Gorilla Wizard So Pale?

Its family tree gives us an obvious place to investigate.

Gorilla Wizard carries albino-associated ancestry through both sides.

Gandalf contains True Albino Teacher genetics.

Makilla Gorilla contains Albino Penis Envy genetics.

However, ancestry alone does not prove that a descendant is a true albino.

A cross involving albino parents can produce different pigmentation expressions depending on which traits are inherited and subsequently selected.

That's why Lady Hyphae's actual phenotype matters.

Our Gorilla Wizard clearly expresses extremely reduced visible pigmentation.

Whether that phenotype should formally be documented as true albino or leucistic depends on what happens in another structure:

the spores.

Spore Characteristics

This is the one characteristic I do not want to invent for Gorilla Wizard.

I could not find reliable enough documentation establishing a single universal Gorilla Wizard spore phenotype.

Its ancestry contains albino genetics, and the fruiting bodies can be extraordinarily pale, but neither characteristic automatically tells us whether its mature spores are clear or pigmented.

If Lady Hyphae's Gorilla Wizard produces clear or essentially transparent spores, that would support classification as a true albino expression.

If it produces dark purple-brown spores despite the white fruiting bodies, leucistic would be the more appropriate description.

So for this genetic, the spores should decide the terminology.

White Does Not Automatically Mean Albino

Gorilla Wizard gives us another excellent example of why Lady Hyphae isn't going to classify genetics by photographs alone.

A mushroom can be completely white to the naked eye and still produce pigmented spores.

That would indicate leucism rather than true albinism.

A true albino phenotype should demonstrate dramatically reduced pigmentation extending beyond the cap and stem.

For Gorilla Wizard, we already know:

Fruit body -> exceptionally pale

Cap -> white

Stem -> white

Spore pigmentation -> needs to be documented

Once we establish the final piece, we can classify the Lady Hyphae genetic more precisely.

Gorilla Wizard vs. Gandalf

Gandalf is one of Gorilla Wizard's direct parents.

Gandalf:

True Albino Teacher x Melmac Pale genetic family Dense Melmac influence

Gorilla Wizard:

Gandalf x Makilla Gorilla Additional DC Mak and APE ancestry Extremely pale expression Compact, dense morphology

Gorilla Wizard essentially adds another PE/Melmac-heavy genetic family on top of Gandalf.

Gorilla Wizard vs. Makilla Gorilla

The Makilla Gorilla side contributes another important part of the genetic's structure.

Makilla Gorilla:

DC Mak x APE Strong PE/Melmac-family ancestry Dense morphology

Gorilla Wizard:

Makilla Gorilla x Gandalf Repeated Melmac-family ancestry Additional TAT ancestry Very pale phenotype

This helps explain why Gorilla Wizard can look simultaneously dense and unusually pale.

Blue Bruising

Blue and blue-gray coloration can become particularly noticeable against Gorilla Wizard's nearly white tissue.

Because there is relatively little tan or brown pigmentation competing visually with the reaction, blue coloration can create dramatic contrast across otherwise white stems and caps.

As with every genetic in the Lady Hyphae collection, bruising intensity should not be used as a quantitative measurement of potency.

Potency

Gorilla Wizard has developed a strong potency reputation within modern mycology communities, which isn't surprising given the reputation of several genetics in its family tree.

But lineage cannot guarantee chemistry.

Gandalf ancestry, Makilla Gorilla ancestry, APE ancestry, or Melmac ancestry does not establish a specific psilocybin concentration in an individual Gorilla Wizard sample.

Without analytical testing of Lady Hyphae's material, we should treat potency as variable rather than assign Gorilla Wizard a fixed potency category.

Why Gorilla Wizard Matters

Gorilla Wizard is a great example of what modern cubensis breeding looks like when multiple highly selected genetic families begin coming back together.

Its family tree isn't geographic like Cambodian or Fiji.

It isn't a single phenotype isolation like Ghost.

It is a deliberate hybrid built from already heavily selected genetics:

TAT + Melmac ↓ Gandalf

DC Mak + APE ↓ Makilla Gorilla

Gandalf + Makilla Gorilla ↓ Gorilla Wizard

The result in Lady Hyphae's collection is almost completely white, dense, and remarkably well proportioned.

Not too tall.

Not excessively squat.

Just compact, substantial, ghostly pale fruiting bodies carrying a surprisingly complicated family tree.
