Pink Oyster Isolated Spore Syringe – 10cc

$20.00

Pink Oyster (Pleurotus djamor) is a tropical gourmet species known for its vivid pink-to-salmon fruiting bodies, dense overlapping clusters, and delicate fan-shaped caps. Its intense pigmentation, warm-weather ecology, and pale reproductive material make it one of the most visually distinctive species in the Pleurotus genus.

Product Description

Pink Oyster (Pleurotus djamor) is a tropical and subtropical oyster mushroom recognized immediately by its striking pink coloration. Fruiting bodies form dense clusters of overlapping, fan-shaped caps that can range from pale blush and salmon to vivid coral pink.

Like other oyster mushrooms, Pink Oyster has a pleurotoid body plan with short, lateral or off-center stems and decurrent gills that extend toward the point of attachment. The gills share the pink coloration of the fruiting body, creating clusters that can appear almost entirely pink when young.

Its coloration is strongest in fresh, developing mushrooms and commonly fades with age. Heat during cooking also dramatically reduces the pink pigmentation, making its color as biologically interesting as it is visually striking.

Under microscopy, P. djamor produces smooth, elongated, hyaline basidiospores. Despite the intense color of the fruiting body, the individual spores themselves are essentially transparent under transmitted light.

Pink Oyster combines tropical ecology, dramatic pigmentation, classic oyster morphology, and pale microscopic spores into a species that looks almost artificial at first glance.

It isn’t. That color is fungal biology.

Strain spotlight

About this strain

Pink Oyster is Pleurotus djamor, a tropical oyster mushroom species distributed through warm regions of the world.

Its most recognizable characteristic is pigmentation. Young fruiting bodies can develop intense salmon, coral, and pink coloration across both the caps and gills. As the mushroom matures, those colors often soften considerably.

The species forms dense clusters of thin, overlapping caps with short lateral stems and strongly decurrent gills. Like other members of Pleurotus, it is a wood-decomposing fungus capable of breaking down lignocellulosic plant material.

Its reproductive material creates an interesting contrast with the fruiting body. Individual basidiospores are smooth, elongated, and hyaline under microscopy rather than bright pink themselves.

Pink Oyster is a perfect example of why visible mushroom color and microscopic spore pigmentation should never be assumed to be the same thing.
