Product Description
Orissa India is a geographically rooted Psilocybe cubensis genetic originating from the Indian state historically known as Orissa—officially renamed Odisha—and credited to ethnomycologist and mushroom researcher John W. Allen, aka Mushroom John.
The genetic became particularly well known within early mycology communities for its ability to produce exceptionally large fruiting bodies, with broad brown-to-golden caps and substantial pale stems.
Its history also contains a long-running piece of mushroom lore. Early descriptions frequently claimed that the original specimens were collected from elephant dung. Later accounts preserving Allen’s own correction state that the collection was actually made from cow dung near Orissa.
Orissa India retains conventional P. cubensis pigmentation, including the dark purple-brown spores characteristic of the species.
About this strain
Orissa India traces back to a wild Indian Psilocybe cubensis collection credited to John W. Allen, better known as Mushroom John.
Allen traveled extensively documenting psychoactive fungi and contributed numerous wild collections to the broader mycological community. Orissa India became one of the Indian genetics associated with that work.
The variety developed a reputation for extraordinary size, and historical community records describe Orissa India specimens among the largest cultivated P. cubensis documented at the time.
Its origin story also illustrates how mushroom lore evolves. The genetic was repeatedly described as originating from elephant dung, but later records state that Allen clarified the original specimens were actually found growing from cow dung near Orissa, India.
Morphologically, Orissa India remains a classic, normally pigmented cubensis genetic, producing broad golden-to-brown caps, substantial pale stems, blue bruising, and dark purple-brown spores.
