Nepal Chitwan is a heritage Psilocybe cubensis landrace originating from the Chitwan region of southern Nepal. Preserved from wild-collected material near the Chitwan Jungle, this classic genetic produces conventionally pigmented fruiting bodies and dark purple-brown to purple-black spores.
Product Description
Nepal Chitwan is a geographic Psilocybe cubensis landrace originating from the lowland Chitwan region of Nepal.
Unlike modern hybrids created by crossing established genetics, Chitwan traces its identity to wild material collected near the Chitwan Jungle. Historical records preserved within the mushroom community attribute the original collection to a collector named Baerbel, who reportedly located three specimens growing in tall grass beneath the shade of a tree. Later descriptions associate the collection with Sauraha near Chitwan and report that the specimens were growing from what appeared to be elephant or rhinoceros dung.
Nepal Chitwan maintains the classic characteristics of a naturally pigmented P. cubensis, including warm golden-to-brown caps, pale stems, blue bruising, and dark purple-brown to purple-black spores.
Its significance comes from geography rather than a complicated family tree. Nepal Chitwan preserves a P. cubensislineage associated with the subtropical lowlands of Nepal, where monsoon conditions, grasslands, forests, and large herbivores create an unusual ecological setting for the species.
About this strain
Nepal Chitwan is a landrace Psilocybe cubensis associated with the Chitwan region of southern Nepal.
Historical community records trace the circulating genetic to wild material collected by Baerbel near the Chitwan Jungle. The original collection reportedly consisted of only three specimens discovered during relatively dry conditions, growing in tall grass beneath the shade of a nearby tree.
The collection has also been associated with Sauraha, a village bordering what is now Chitwan National Park, and with dung from the region's large herbivores.
Rather than representing a modern cross or laboratory-created isolation, Nepal Chitwan belongs to an older category of cubensis genetics whose names preserve the geography from which their original wild material was collected.
Its conventional dark spores, classic cubensis morphology, and unusual Himalayan-foothill provenance make Chitwan an important geographic genetic within the broader P. cubensis collection.
