Product Description

Cambodian is a geographically rooted Psilocybe cubensis genetic connected to the fieldwork of ethnomycologist John W. Allen, better known throughout the mycology community as Mushroom John.

Allen conducted numerous expeditions throughout Southeast Asia and documented P. cubensis growing in Cambodia around the Angkor Wat temple complex. Material from his Cambodian collections later entered mycology collections and became the foundation of the genetic commonly known simply as Cambodian.

Unlike modern hybrids created by crossing two named parents, Cambodian traces its identity to a wild regional population. It retains traditional cubensis morphology, including warm golden-to-caramel caps, pale stems, blue bruising, and conventionally pigmented dark purple-brown spores.

Its documented connection to Allen’s Southeast Asian fieldwork makes Cambodian an important heritage genetic within modern P. cubensis collections.

About this strain

Cambodian traces back to wild Psilocybe cubensis collected in Cambodia by ethnomycologist John W. Allen during his extensive research throughout Southeast Asia.

Allen's published field accounts document P. cubensis around the Angkor Wat region, where cattle and water buffalo were common throughout the surrounding tropical landscape. Specimens collected during his expeditions were preserved for identification, with material examined by renowned mycologist Gastón Guzmán.

The genetic that entered modern collections as Cambodian preserves this geographic association.

Cambodian is normally pigmented and produces the dark purple-brown spores characteristic of conventional P. cubensis. For microscopy, it provides a useful reference point for comparing traditional wild-derived cubensis genetics with the increasingly specialized albino, leucistic, hybrid, and mutant lines found in modern collections.
